I thought the Fitzmyer interview was surprisingly thin. I don't just mean that it was short, but that the responses were not very helpful.
I enjoyed his commentary, especially when it came to lexical study, but I thought it lacked theological imagination. Also, the outright rejection of all things NPP is silly to me. Fitzmyer ought to at least engage the great historical-critical insights of Sanders and Dunn. (I know, I know, I'm a chihuahua barking at a great dane)
In what ways, J.R. Daniel Kirk, did you find the interview analogous to the commentary?
'Jo'?
ReplyDeleteI was expecting a long-winded response by a formidable NT scholar. But you gotta love the short and sweet responses sometimes.
ReplyDeleteWow. I found the interview analogous to the Romans commentary in more ways than I anticipated...
