Perils of Porn

ABC Lateline has an excellent interview with Gail Dines, Professor of Sociology at Boston University about her book Pornland which argues that pornography has hijacked sexuality. She is very forthright about what pornography does to women, men, and why it needs to be stopped. Porn has become increasingly violent and brutal in the last 20 years in order to keep its consumers interested. She comments at the end:

This is why we started Stop Porn Culture and I encourage people in Australia also to start an organisation because nobody said that pornographers have the right to come in and do a stealth attack on our culture the way they have done.

I should also give a plug to Tim Chester's book Captured by a Better Vision: Living Porn Free which is apparently a cracking read.

would it be worth warning people that they might need a strong stomach just to *read* that interview?

it's absolutely terrifying. I've never read a stronger case for censorship!

An even more accurate, but politically volatile explanation of the overt and conscious intent of pornographers to subvert Christian culture can be found in the Jewish Quarterly article, with interviews of prominent porn publishers like Swank. (Nathan Abrams on Jews in the American p*rn industry, Jewish Quarterly (UK), 2005, p. 27-30) The basic argument is that it isn't even the money (these men are already immensely rich), but rather the Jewish anger against American Christian values, which had marginalized them in the past.

A far more frightening read, and which requires an even more explicit warning re: language and subject-matter. But nevertheless required reading, to understand the motivations of pornographers and those who work in the sex industries.
